About the course:

This course is based on the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association's manual ' 118 - Guide to Flange Work' (Håndbok i flensearbeid) and is designed to provide knowledge of the preliminary work, planning, execution and documentation associated with assembling flanges using tensioning bolts fitted to flange connections on high-pressure hydrocarbon process systems.

The course involves a combination of theory and practical exercises concluding with an online exam that takes about 2 hours to complete

22.5 hours

Target group:

Mechanics, Industrial plumbers, Process technicians, Supervisors, Planners, Apprentices, Contractors' expert technicians who perform new installations and maintenance on pressure tanks, heat exchangers, valves and pipes (process installations) involving flange assemblies and braces.

Course content:

This course addresses the most common work operations involved in flange work on ASME RF/FF, ASME RTJ, API, NCF5 Compact and Clamped connections. The course includes the following main topics:

- Flanges and gaskets

- Disassembly

- Inspection

- Alignment

- Assembly

- Follow-up inspections

Skills prerequisites

Executing professionals who require OLF-certification in order to perform independent work involving flanges should possess one of the following (or equivalent):

If the candidate does not possess a relevant certificate, his or her employer must be able to verify and vouch that the candidate has adequate qualifications and practical experience (minimum 2 years) of work on flanges in HC systems.
